You are living in the Matrix
I've done my share of esoteric practices. I first learned about Human Design while on a yoga retreat in Thailand back in 2015. I participated in my first ayahuasca ceremony the same year. I had been meditating for a long time before that. It was the time of my 40 year cycle, and looking back to my chart now, I can see how why this cycle brought me a certain imprinting (subtitled from Genius to Freak, if you can believe it!)
And all through this time, I saw that people (including myself) have wanted to escape from this mundane life.
Sure there's something to be said about being in a nice, relaxed state: it's hard to follow your decision-making strategy if you're feeling anxious. But just going to events won't absolve you from your daily stressors. Even when an event, meditation, or medicine journey brings you to an elevated state, you'll still be in the matrix.
Human Design is different. It's not about pulling you out of the Matrix. It’s about recognizing who you are within the Matrix (what we call the Maia), and how to use that to your advantage. We learn to align with our unique form to increase our levels of success, satisfaction, peace, and surprise.
Since The Matrix is one of my favorite movies, I thought it would be fun to describe each of the four Human Design types with characters from the movie. It's also a great intro to Human Design if you're new to the system. You may not ever leave the Matrix, but with this knowledge maybe you can dodge bullets! (probably not)
Spoiler alert :)
The Initiator

Morpheus is our Initiator (Manifestor in traditional Human Design). He gets things started by actively looking for the right people and inviting them to be on his crew. He doesn’t wait for anyone: he has a vision for the future and acts to make it happen. And although Manifestors can wade into the battle, they are a better fit to allow others to do the daily work. Around 10% of the population are Initiators. Which brings us to ...
The Builder

Neo is our Builder (or Generator). The energy of Builders (around 65% of the population) continually regenerates and so are designed to work. Before his awakening Neo had a normal job, but after getting home he still had energy to do what he loved: being a hacker and searching for answers. After awhile he came to the attention of Morpheus, who recognized him as the One and invited him to his cause. He actually said no until he saw the White Rabbit and responded to it. Especially in the first movie, he is for the most part just responding to what others are doing / saying. Most people are Builders: around 65% of the population. Neo was guided to his destiny by ...
The Advisor

For our Advisor (or Projector) we have the Oracle. She relaxes at her home, doing what she enjoys (making cookies), and waiting for people to come to her. She isn’t advertising her business—people recognize her because of her mastery, and then seek her out. She meets each person one on one, and with her penetrating aura, she can literally feel the other person. With enough training, Advisors can use this knowledge to guide people like no one else can. They make up around a quarter of the population. Seeing it all is ...
The Evaluator

The Architect from the 2nd Matrix movie is our Evaluator (or Reflector). Although he did build the initial system, he has a more important role: seeing the health of the entire system from a bird's eye view (as all the video monitors make clear). From this place, Evaluators can both understand how things are going, as well as noticing specific people (like the One!) who are somehow different from the rest. They are extremely rare: only 1% of the population!
I hope you enjoyed this little journey through the Matrix and how it relates to Human Design. I'll be sharing something every week from my own knowledge and experience. Until then, practice your decision-making strategy, and above all, love yourself.
With love,
Shawn
